Over the past week, an estimated 50,000 people from as far as Australia, Russia, Thailand and Alaska visited the Ohel in Queens, N.Y., the resting place of the Lubavitcher RebbeâRabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, of righteous memoryâin honor of the 22nd anniversary of his passing on the third day of the Hebrew month of Tammuz (Gimmel Tammuz), which this year corresponded to Shabbat.
On Sunday afternoon, the âpan klaliâ letter, which was signed by many Chassidim, was read at the Ohel by Rabbi Abraham Shemtov, director of Lubavitch of Philadelphia and chairman of the executive committee of Agudas Chassidei Chabad, the umbrella organization of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement.
While guests arrived during the midst of a brutal heat waveâwith bursts of rain as Shabbat came to a closeâthousands more visited the the Ohel on Sunday before leaving for home around the world.
