Oh, Chanukah! Oh, Chanukah!

© Copyright Suki & Ding. All rights reserved.

This is the English version of this popular children's Chanukah song, translated from its original in Yiddish.

Oh Chanukah, Oh Chanukah
Come light the Menorah
Let's have a party
We'll all dance the Horah

Spin the whirling dreidels
All week long
Eating the sizzling latkes
Sing a happy song

Now light them tonight then
The candles all in a row
We tell the wondrous story of G-d in all His glory
The wonders of long ago.

song translations
Is there a better literal translation from the Yiddish? I know that Yom tov a shaina means a pretty holiday, not come light the menorah. I also know that translating from Yiddish, we often lose a lot, but your English translation here looks like it is taken from a similar O Chanukah song...which says 'gather round the table we'll give you a treat, dreydils to play with and latkes to eat" I think it is the same song...?

RE: Yiddish Lyrics
אוי חנוכה אוי חנוכה

אלע נאכט מיט דריידלעך ,שפילן מיר
פרישע הייסע לאטקעס ,עסן אן א שיעור

קומט קינדער געשווינדער
די חנוכה ליכט ,וועלן מיר אנצונדען

לאמיר אלע טאנצען צוזאמען

Do you know how I could get the original Yiddish lyrics for "O Chanukah, Oh Chanukah"?
Thanks for any help/guidance.
