Because we are programmed to be subservient depending on the level of Judaism we are willing to study. I was raised Reformed with quasi Orthodox grandparents on my mother's side. My father Baruch hashem was full Orthodox coming out of the camps at age 15. His parents kept a kosher home where my mother's parents did not. When I went back to serious Torah study I realized that while we are committed to certain rituals and prayers we can in a modern society be absolved from the guilt. Hashem loves openly and compassionately. Reply

How did you act during the day? How did you treat others? Did you praise and thank Him anytime during the course of the day? It could be your guilty conscience. Reply

That is interesting. Sometimes I have fear of nature or evil (as in evil people doing something to my family) but not Hashem. Reply

I think He will punish me hard because I have missed prayers very many times. Reply

It's good that you're sensitive to Hashem's needs. If I may, my sense about Him is that He is present when we pray and do mitzvah. It is these actions that allow us to help create a dwelling place for Him in this world. However, when we miss prayers, or miss doing mitzvah's he is not present and it does not move us deeper into making a home for Him. The punishment is only that it will take longer for Mosiach to return. Take heart in knowing that when you do mitzvah, you enlarge His presence here. He needs us to pray, study and do mitzvah but I don't think He will punish us. The punishment is that it will take longer for Him to dwell here. Keep doing everything you can and when you miss a chance to do a mitzvah, just do the next one. Ask Him what He wants from you and He will answer you. All the Best to you Jeetun. He loves you. Try to remember that God is both loving and merciful to those who have a repentant heart. He doesn't hold a grudge against us nor is looking to punish us at every turn. His grace is so much greater than our sin and He knows us and our weaknesses better than we know ourselves. Repent and start again for He loves when we acknowledge our need for Him and that we fall short at times. Reply

NO! G-d knows our intent and does not punish - rather makes us think about our actions as a part of our daily lives. Praying can be constant and does not always require a Minyon or being in Shul. I pray alone because for me its what works and allows ne to focus on the intent of the activity of praying and offering my physical energy to service.. When you practice alone you can also reflect on the Torah and its meaning. Perhaps a prayer partner can get you focused in prayer again. Reply

G-d does not punish. G-d in its infinite forms is around us all the time. It is not prayer that makes us worthy of
G-d’s blessings. It is how we live our life, how we treat others, the kindness we bring to the world, being in the moment and noticing the blessings all around us. Whether you pray once a day or ten times a day, it matters not. It is the prayer in your soul and in your heart that matters - the simple gratitudes expressed. Walk into nature, take a deep breadth, notice the beauty and appreciate the blessing of the moment. That is prayer. Do not torture yourself with shame and worry about how many times you pray. G-d is here and with you - just open your eyes to G-d’s beauty. Reply

I agree with you about spiritual warfare - because as Chassids we are called to intentionally "feed the souls of those who have gone before us." Particularly on Shabbos and holidays. So given the nature of souls and the intention of perpetuation of the soul - its only natural that spiritual warfare might be a part of the unease. As enlightened people we call those souls into being. I agree , too that G-d as a source of comfort and peace is all we should aspire to. Torah study before bed is key. Reply

You should tell a trusted friend or relative or guardian (or anyone else who you trust or know can help you) about it. There IS ways to cure depression and nobody should suffer with it. I advise you to get and tell a trained professional or physcitrist or a licensed therapist help or your primary care doctor (the doctor you usually go to first routine checkups or just the doctor you see when you sick with the cold or something else). Trust me. I had depression and currently know people who have depression and mental disorders/illnesses which I also have. There no way to cure depression by yourself. Trust me. I also have a therapist it’s not just for insane people or the mentally ill. Trust me. Reply

My question is, why at night do we say "b'yado efkeed ruchi (into His hand I entrust my "Ruah" (soul) but in the morning, at mode an we thank Hashem for giving back our Neshama/ (soul). Why are two different words used? Does something happen to our souls at night when we are sleeping? Does G-d rturn the "ruaach" that we entrust to Him at night in a different form in the morning? Possibly the soul ascends to a higher level after having rested (might also be the meaning of Shabbat).

Yes they are the cord that ties you to G-d as I see it. I left South Africa in rather a rush - on the last British Airways flight to England. I depend on these prayers and the Bedtime Shma to sort of hang in. Reply

A lot of people do have a basin and a bowl of water next to their bed if the bathroom is further than 6 feet. Search morning hand washing in the search bar as I can't paste the link on chabad.org. Reply
